JAKARTA, bhayaksa.net — A major directive has been issued for all Highway Patrol (PJR) officers. Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Police Inspector General Wibowo, has strictly ordered his personnel to overhaul their service approach on the road, urging them to be much more approachable and ditch the rigid stereotype.
During a briefing in Jakarta on Thursday (9/3/2026), Inspector General Wibowo emphasized that every highway patrol officer must fully embody the five core values of the Polantas KARIB program.
The acronym KARIB stands for Kemitraan (Partnership), Aktif (Proactive), Responsif (Responsive), Intuitif (Intuitive), and Berintegritas (Integrity).
According to the Traffic Chief, this program is far more than a catchy slogan on paper; it must be actively practiced on the ground, whether officers are managing traffic flow or assisting drivers in distress.
“Our highway patrol officers are the public face of the Police on the road. Their presence should make drivers feel safe and comfortable, not the other way around. That is why the KARIB values must be deeply ingrained in every officer’s heart, allowing them to act as a supportive ‘bestie’ to the community,” stated Inspector General Wibowo.
To clear up any confusion, here is the breakdown of the 5 KARIB values that highway patrol officers must execute in the field:
- Partnership: Traffic police must actively engage and collaborate with all stakeholders, ranging from transportation agencies to motorist and driver communities, to find collective solutions for road issues.
- Proactive: Officers are strictly prohibited from just sitting around or waiting for incidents to be reported. They must proactively deploy to areas prone to congestion and accidents to provide immediate assistance.
- Responsive: The moment an accident or a citizen complaint is logged, officers are required to take swift action, providing a quick response without any unnecessary delays.
- Intuitive: Maintaining a high level of situational awareness on the ground. If an officer spots a motorist with a broken-down vehicle or someone looking confused, they must intuitively offer help without needing to be asked.
- Integrity: This remains the most crucial pillar. Law enforcement must be fully transparent. The Traffic Chief issued a stern warning to his personnel to completely steer clear of extortion, bribery, or illegal on-the-spot settlements to preserve the institution’s integrity.
Moving beyond mere verbal directives, the National Police Traffic Corps is reportedly set to launch specialized training and competency certification programs for these highway patrol officers. Moving forward, commuters can expect to encounter much friendlier and highly alert officers on the road!
“We fully expect the public satisfaction index and trust toward the Traffic Police to increase significantly,” he concluded.
