CILEGON, bhayaksa.net— The Cilegon Municipal Government continues to demonstrate a solid commitment to sustainable environmental initiatives to achieve its target of 30 percent green territory in Cilegon. This strategic movement is being realized through a synergy with a key player in the industrial sector, PT Krakatau Tirta Industri (KTI). The collaboration has been implemented through the distribution and planting of 1,500 productive tree seedlings distributed across all sub-districts within the Ciwandan and Citangkil Districts, Cilegon City, Banten.

This environmental initiative is driven by Cilegonโ€™s strategic position as a national industrial hub. Given that factory and manufacturing activities in the area generate massive carbon dioxide (COโ‚‚) emissions, the creation of a new green vegetation belt is considered a vital solution to absorb air pollutants and generate a healthy oxygen supply for the local community.

The management of PT Krakatau Tirta Industri issued an official statement during an environmental coordination agenda held in Cilegon City, Wednesday (10/14/2026). The company explained that the program to plant thousands of trees is not merely a ceremonial activity, but part of a long-term natural disaster mitigation effort.

โ€œWhat we are doing today is a form of vigilance and a mitigation effort so that we can collectively anticipate potential disasters, especially flooding, in the Cilegon area,โ€ stated the Director of PT Krakatau Tirta Industri, Imam Subekti, in his official release in Cilegon, Wednesday (10/14/2026). He added that this concrete step is expected to motivate other companies in Cilegon to take part in preserving nature amidst the dense industrial landscape.

Welcoming this initiative, the Cilegon Municipal Government also emphasized strict regulations regarding the obligation to provide open green spaces in industrial zones. Through a statement at the Cilegon City Environmental Department (DLH) office, Wednesday (10/14/2026), the local government representative urged active participation from all business entities.

โ€œTherefore, we demand the industry to play an active role. At the very least, a minimum of 30 percent of the surrounding land in their respective industrial zones must be allocated for greening,โ€ asserted the Head of Cilegon City DLH, Sabri Mahyudin, in his remarks in Cilegon, Wednesday (10/14/2026). To ensure the sustainability of the newly established ecosystem, the Cilegon Municipal Government, through local district and sub-district offices, is confirmed to carry out regular maintenance and monitoring stages post-planting.
