TANJUNG REDEB,bhayaksa.net – As the dry season takes hold in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, bringing a heightened risk of forest and land fires (karhutla), local law enforcement is sending a firm message: illegal land burning will face strict legal prosecution.
This strong stance was demonstrated during the 2026 East Kalimantan Forest and Land Fire Emergency Preparedness Roll Call, held at the Tanjung Redeb Police Headquarters yard on Pemuda Street, Tuesday (11/8/2026) afternoon.
Led directly by Berau Deputy Police Chief, Police Commissioner (Kompol) Noor Dhianto, the multi-agency operation mobilized personnel from the Indonesian National Police (Polri), Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Basarnas, Berau BPBD, the East Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service, Berau Fire Department, and the PT Berau Coal Rescue Team to inspect both operational readiness and firefighting gear.
During the deployment, Kompol Noor Dhianto stressed that the region’s strategy combines active prevention with firm law enforcement, with intensified patrols focused on high-risk areas.
”Do not attempt to burn land under any circumstances. Early prevention and public awareness are our main keys,” emphasized Kompol Noor Dhianto.
Authorities urged residents to immediately abandon the practice of clearing or cleaning land using fire. With scorching weather drying out local vegetation, small flames can spread uncontrollably within seconds.
He added that community cooperation right from the start is critical to preventing wide-scale disasters.
”A single small source of fire amid dry vegetation can quickly turn into a massive crisis if it isn’t prevented and handled immediately,” he warned.
Police reaffirmed that anyone caught deliberately burning forests or land will face immediate criminal prosecution in accordance with applicable laws.
