JAMBI,bhayaksa.net – The Provincial Board of the All Indonesian Chess Association (Pengprov Percasi) Jambi officially kicked off the 2026 Praporprov Chess Tournament at the Jambi Business Center (JBC) Pavilion on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Running through August 9, the two-day event serves as both a high-stakes competition and a vital selection ground for the top chess talent across Jambi Province.
The tournament was opened by the Chairman of Pengprov Percasi Jambi, Mario Liberty Siregar, alongside provincial board members, regional branch representatives, and competing athletes.
In his opening address, Mario highlighted the competition as an essential benchmark for local talent development.
”This tournament is a crucial evaluation for our athletes. I strictly emphasize that every participant must uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship.
There is no room for match-fixing—that era is long gone,” Mario asserted to the players.
To drive competitive spirit, Percasi Jambi announced high-stakes incentives for the veteran class: the top three finishers in the veteran division will automatically earn their spots to represent the province at the upcoming National Chess Championship (Kejurnas) in Banten Province.
Additionally, veteran players representing regional teams who successfully bring home medals will also join the national delegation.
A Historic First for Jambi Chess
This year’s Praporprov sets a new benchmark in regional chess history, marking the first time a simultaneous, unified tournament format of this scale has been held in Jambi.
A total of 72 selected players from 11 regencies and cities—plus the provincial team—are competing across three primary categories:
1.Team Event: 4 players per squad
2.Open Individual: 1 player per squad
3.Veteran Individual: 1 player per squad
To test endurance, tactical discipline, and consistency, all categories are contested under an 11-round Round Robin system.
The initiative led by Mario Liberty Siregar has drawn strong enthusiasm from athletes and regional officials alike, establishing a solid launchpad for developing gold-caliber talent ready to represent Jambi on the national stage.
