BATAM,bhayaksa.net – In a major joint operation, Indonesian law enforcement agencies successfully foiled an international smuggling attempt involving 1.3 tons of ketamine valued at approximately IDR 2.076 trillion.
The entire consignment was officially destroyed in incinerators at the Kodaeral IV Headquarters in Batam on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
The destruction ceremony was attended by Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, and top officials from allied security agencies.
Chronology: Interception of the MV King Sun
The operation began when a joint maritime patrol spotted and intercepted a vessel named the MV King Sun navigating through the waters of Tanjung Berakit, Riau Islands.
According to the Commander of Kodaeral IV, Rear Admiral Berkat Widjanarko, officers uncovered 65 suspicious sacks hidden inside the ship’s bridge.
Subsequent laboratory testing confirmed that the contents were high-purity ketamine, totaling 1.3 tons.

With market prices estimated at IDR 1.6 million per gram, the seized drugs held an economic value of IDR 2.076 trillion. Assuming one gram can endanger five individuals, this operation effectively shielded an estimated 6.49 million people from potential drug abuse.
Firm Warnings from Leadership
Coordinating Minister Djamari Chaniago praised the swift coordination, sending a stern warning to international syndicates:
”This bust is not just about the volume of evidence confiscated, but about how many lives we have saved from the threat of narcotics,” Chaniago emphasized, reiterating that Indonesia will not serve as a transit hub or target market for illicit drug networks.
Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad reinforced the commitment to securing border zones:
”We want Batam to remain a safe environment where citizens are protected, leaving zero room for drug cartels to operate,” Achmad stated.
Incinerated to Dust
Following forensic verification, all 1.3 tons of ketamine were completely destroyed using three industrial incinerators to prevent any possibility of redistribution.
