PONTIANAK, bhayaksa.net – Wildfires (karhutla) across West Kalimantan have reached a critical phase. In a swift response, the West Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalbar) officially deployed 300 backup tactical troops (BKO) from the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) to reinforce the Aman Nusa II Task Force on Tuesday (8/25/2026) ago.
The strategic deployment of these specialized forces, equipped with cutting-edge support infrastructure, sends a strong signal of the National Police’s commitment to accelerating wildfire suppression and saving the region from toxic haze.
Speaking to reporters after leading the troop deployment briefing, the West Kalimantan Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Alberd Teddy Benhard Sianipar, S.I.K., M.H., revealed the critical objectives behind this massive mobilization.
“The West Kalimantan Police have mobilized 2,298 personnel under the Aman Nusa II Task Force. With the reinforcement of 300 Brimob tactical troops and 8 public outreach specialists, this task force is highly optimized to combat wildfires down to the grassroots level,” Inspector General Sianipar stated. He added that the operation places a major emphasis on direct, door-to-door community education.
Eight Regencies Secured Under Priority Zones
For this integrated operation, the police have mapped out eight regencies divided into specific high-priority suppression zones:
- Special Attention Zones: Ketapang, Kubu Raya, and Melawi Regencies.
- Border Control Zones: Sambas and Sanggau Regencies.
- Central & Southern Zones: Bengkayang, Mempawah, and Kayong Utara Regencies.
Tactical Strategies to Overcome Water Scarcity
Beyond fighting the spreading blazes, the field teams face a severe challenge: an acute lack of water at the wildfire sites. To overcome this systemic bottleneck, the police are collaborating with the local Environmental Department (DLH) and sub-regional police stations to execute a double-pronged water supply strategy.
First, the joint forces are mapping out fire-prone coordinates to drill borewell systems directly on-site. Second, they are optimizing water containment in retention basins (embung) and nearby trenches. The logistical distribution of water for firefighting operations will also leverage community-driven volunteer networks and nearby private corporations.
“Execute your duties to the fullest, prioritize field safety, and serve with absolute dedication,” the West Kalimantan Police Chief concluded as he dispatched the specialized units to their respective operational zones.
