BATAM, bhayaksa.net—- Flight operations at Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam remained smooth and normal on Thursday (9/10). Airport management confirmed that all scheduled departures and arrivals are operating within their designated slots, despite a thin blanket of haze hovering over Batam’s airspace and a recent wave of mass cancellations triggered by natural events.
According to the latest data from the Hang Nadim Class I Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), visibility on the runway was recorded between 6 and 7 kilometers (approx. 3.7 to 4.3 miles). This drop in visibility was caused by air mass movements from the southeast, carrying light haze from several regional hotspots across Sumatra and surrounding waters.
Despite the reduced visibility, airport authorities and AirNav Indonesia emphasized that current conditions remain well above the minimum safety margins required for commercial aviation, causing no disruptions to takeoffs or landings.
Full Recovery for the Core Jakarta Route
Today’s operational stability marks a crucial recovery milestone for airport management following earlier disruptions this week. Previously, 19 round-trip flights between Batam and Jakarta—affecting roughly 2,462 passengers—were canceled en masse due to volcanic ash clouds from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, which temporarily restricted access to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Anton Marthalius, Director of Operations at Hang Nadim Airport, stated in an official release that connectivity for the Batam-Jakarta route has fully recovered under PT Bandara Internasional Batam (BIB). Authorities project total air traffic today to reach 64 flights (comprising 33 arrivals and 31 departures), with overall passenger volume expected to hit 9,264 travelers.
Traffic Mitigation and Passenger Care
To mitigate unpredictable weather patterns and prevent passenger congestion following recent disruptions, management continues to deploy dedicated customer service desks throughout the terminal. These centers are designed to expedite rescheduling and process airline refunds swiftly should force majeure conditions arise at regional destinations.
Meanwhile, domestic travelers driving to and from Hang Nadim are advised to plan for local road detours. Starting today, the Batam City Government has fully closed Jalan Tengku Sulung for a road-raising project. Motorists heading to the airport are highly encouraged to use alternative routes via Villa Pesona Asri or Marbella to bypass heavy traffic.
PT BIB management urges all business travelers and passengers to actively verify their flight status via their respective airlines’ digital channels before heading to the airport.
