JAKARTA, bhayaksa.net— Thousands of pop culture enthusiasts went wild as the main stage of Indonesia Comic Con (ICC) 2026 welcomed a special guest star, Mackenyu Arata. The Japanese actor, who skyrocketed to global fame for his role as Roronoa Zoro in the One Piece live-action series, successfully electrified the atmosphere at the Hall Expo and Arena JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (10/4/2026) afternoon.
Mackenyu’s appearance on the second day of ICC 2026 became the highly anticipated main attraction. According to on-site observations, the area in front of the main stage was already packed with a sea of people by 12:00 PM, two hours before the actor was scheduled to take the stage at 2:00 PM. Many fans brought custom attributes, ranging from posters and replica katana swords to banners reading “Love You Mackenyu”.
As the clock struck 2:00 PM, the host called out Mackenyu’s name, which was instantly met with a deafening roar of screams from ecstatic fans. Dressed in a casual yet highly charismatic outfit, Mackenyu walked to the center of the stage while waving his hand and flashing a warm smile at the audience.
During a talk show session titled “Beyond Zoro”, Mackenyu revealed that this was his very first visit to Indonesia. He admitted to being completely surprised and deeply moved by the massive enthusiasm from the people of Jakarta.
“I am incredibly surprised by this warm welcome. Honestly, the kindness and mutual respect shown by the people in Indonesia make me feel so comfortable, it actually feels like coming back home to Japan,” Mackenyu expressed in front of thousands of cheering fans.
The 29-year-old actor then shared his experience portraying the iconic character Roronoa Zoro. In his view, bringing a highly popular anime character with a massive global fanbase to life is far more challenging and difficult compared to creating a brand-new character from scratch. He had to ensure that the sword choreography and character depth remained respectful to the original source material.
The stage atmosphere grew even more interactive when Mackenyu was asked about his personal hobbies outside of acting. He candidly listed some of his favorite ongoing anime titles, including Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Hell’s Paradise, and The Eminence in Shadow. This honest confession was immediately met with a massive round of applause from the anime lovers in attendance.
The meeting session, which lasted for about 45 minutes, concluded with a group photo from the stage, showcasing a backdrop of thousands of smiling Indonesian fans. Mackenyu’s appearance was widely considered a massive success, delivering an unforgettable experience and making history at this year’s Indonesia Comic Con.
