JAMBI, bhayaksa.net—- The Jambi City Education Department has officially declared an extension of the Remote Learning (PJJ) schedule for all educational institutional levels within its region, effective starting October 16, 2026. Local education authorities enacted this rigorous measure following deteriorated air quality conditions caused by severe wildfire smoke and haze.
This critical decision was issued in direct response to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Circular Letter Number 20 of 2026, alongside the Jambi City Mayor Circular Letter Number 29 of 2026, regarding Air Pollution Mitigation Programs for Teaching and Learning Activities within Educational Institutions. The policy strictly applies to all institutional units, spanning Kindergarten/Preschool (TK/PAUD), Elementary School (SD), and Junior High School (SMP) across Jambi City.
The emergency directive was implemented after routine monitoring of the Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) classified Jambi City’s air quality under the HAZARDOUS category. To safely guarantee every child’s right to education, the Education Department outlined five core mandates for the school ecosystem:
- Flexible Learning Systems: All Kindergarten/Preschool, Elementary, and Junior High School students will conduct teaching and learning activities remotely starting October 16, 2026, until air quality conditions are officially declared safe for in-person instruction.
- On-Site Attendance for Faculty: School principals, administrative staff, and teachers are required to report to their respective schools to ensure online learning materials are delivered effectively.
- Strict Parental Supervision: Parents or legal guardians are requested to supervise and guide students during remote learning hours, while strictly prohibiting children from engaging in outdoor activities during unhealthy air conditions.
- Teacher Instructional Obligations: Homeroom and subject teachers must consistently distribute online educational materials to maintain student learning standards, while reporting progress to their respective school principals.
- Tiered Supervision: Educational supervisors and inspectors will be deployed to monitor, assist, and directly supervise their assigned schools regarding the implementation of the remote learning process.
The Jambi City Education Department emphasized that any future decisions regarding returning students to in-person learning (PTM) will be adjusted dynamically. The policy revision remains entirely dependent on real-time air quality developments and continuous environmental assessments throughout Jambi City.
