SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, bhayaksa.net—- As October 2026 begins, the Indonesian diaspora and student communities across New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) are making the most of the Labour Day long weekend by hosting a warm community gathering.
This heartfelt gathering serves as an initial stepping stone for Indonesian youth abroad to consolidate their preparations for the upcoming Youth Pledge Day (Hari Sumpah Pemuda), which will be celebrated at the end of this month.
The atmosphere across Australia was observed to be highly vibrant and welcoming on Saturday (10/3/2026). Indonesian citizens living abroad flocked to experience the peak of spring, with many visiting the Floriade NightFest 2026 at Commonwealth Park, Canberra.
This iconic annual night festival transformed millions of spring blossoms into a spectacular canvas of light, featuring artistic light installations, live music performances, and bustling night food markets. The inclusive beauty of the night event became a major hub for Indonesian students and families to gather amidst the crisp spring air.
The community’s enthusiasm was further heightened by the local Labour Day holiday, which falls on Monday, October 5, 2026. In observance of this national holiday, public services at Indonesian government representative offices, including the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Sydney, have been announced as temporarily closed.
This break from work and university schedules was quickly embraced by youth representatives and student organizations from the homeland. Amidst the relaxed setting of enjoying the beauty of Floriade NightFest and open public spaces, they productively utilized the moment to map out a series of national collective agendas.
Initial coordination has begun to prepare for a hybrid joint flag-raising ceremony and youth discussions, all aimed at strengthening the spirit of nationalism among young Indonesians living overseas.
