Mini tournament at Villa Kenali, Jambi Town

JAMBI, Villa Kenali, bhayaksa.net— The excitement of community-level chess competition has once again sparked in Jambi City. A tactical battle titled the Villa Kenali Mini Chess Tournament was successfully held on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Serving as both a community gathering and an arena for local players to showcase their skills, the tournament took place at the residence of Abidin, the Secretary of PERCASI Jambi City.

The event featured six formidable chess players ready to battle on the 64-square board: Bangun Samporna, Yunariadi, Winarno, Rudi Siahaan, Sopian, and Abidin himself as the host. The competitive atmosphere was intense as the committee implemented a 5-Round Swiss System with a time control of 20 minutes with no increment. This fast-paced format demanded strong endurance, rapid calculation, and absolute precision from each player to avoid critical blunders and secure full points in every round.

The head of the organizing committee emphasized that this tournament was held to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among players while providing a positive boost to the chess ecosystem in Jambi City.

Beyond the pursuit of titles, this momentum was deeply understood as a reflection of the philosophical meaning of chess itself. Through every pawn move, the tournament essentially served as a platform to cultivate structured thinking, expand the definition of true sportsmanship, and foster a high sense of responsibility among fellow players.

“Through this mini tournament, we want to prove that independent competitions play a crucial role in keeping the enthusiasm for chess alive. This is a reflection of our commitment to strengthening the foundation of our community,” he stated during the opening ceremony.

The primary connection between this mini tournament and the broader chess structure is its role as a micro-level enforcement of governance within the sport. The event carried an important mission to educate athletes to always remain compliant with the rules of the chess world under the auspices of PERCASI. Despite its small scale, all dynamics on the chessboards were bound by strict adherence to the official regulations of the organization, particularly the Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART) of PERCASI, which serve as the main compass for the sport’s development.

By implementing formal rules within this mini tournament, individual egos and self-centered ambitions were entirely kept in check. A selfless attitude was highlighted as the main pillar in building a healthy sporting environment. By bringing the values of the PERCASI bylaws down to community-level competitions, the community aims to steer the chess world in a clear and measurable direction, aligned with the fundamental goals set by the Central Board (PB) of PERCASI to ensure the success of chess in the country, especially within Jambi City.

The matches progressed fiercely from the opening moves to the dramatic endgames. The battles on the black-and-white board were not just a stage for tactical calculations, but also a contest for appreciation among the top three finishers. The committee prepared tangible rewards for 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place finishers as a source of motivation for the participants to continue sharpening their skills in the future.

After a grueling 5-round battle that pushed tactical boundaries, all participants concluded the competition with handshakes. In line with the universal chess motto, Gens Una Sumus, meaning “We Are One Family,” the rivalry on the tables instantly dissolved as the social gathering began.

The event concluded with a shared meal over coffee. This relaxed moment turned into a productive, informal discussion space for officials and players to plan larger chess events in Jambi Province. Independent initiatives rich in organizational discipline like this are expected to run regularly to discover hidden talents and strengthen solidarity within the local chess community.
